To make Easter more Christ-centered you must infatuate yourself and your life with Christ-honoring things. The old secular ways need to be removed so that the thoughts of Christ can be predominant. Use the following ideas to purge out the old secular thoughts of Easter so there’s a place for the new Christ-centered thoughts to come sweeping in to fill that purged void.
Ideas to Celebrate Easter At the Dining Table
1. Talk about the resurrection while you eat.
Eat as a family around the breakfast table, and ask each member of the family:
- To tell something they know about the resurrection.
- To tell what the resurrection is.
- To find the resurrection in the bible.
2. Make resurrection pancakes.
Make pancakes shaped like an R. Make empty tomb pancakes with a cave entrance covered by a smaller round “stone” pancake covering the entrance. When you pull the stone away, you find some goodie, but you don’t find Jesus.
3. Eat with special resurrection placemats.
Set placemats with a verse about the resurrection covered by the plate. When the plate is empty, they can pick up the plate and read the verse.
Ideas to Celebrate Easter Around the House
4. Sing resurrection songs.
A few of our favorites are:
- I Am the Resurrection and the Life
- He Lives
- Up from the Grave, He Arose
- Because He Lives
- Crown Him with Many Crowns
5. Decorate your house with the resurrection theme.
Hang wall art with verses about the resurrection. Put crosses up for all to see. Set up a resurrection “nativity scene” with little figurines of the cross and the tomb.
6. Have a resurrection egg hunt.
Make resurrection eggs by boiling 12 eggs and then putting each letter of the word RESURRECTION on an egg. Your children have to find all the eggs and put them in the proper order to spell the word like a Scrabble game. Then use an egg to explain to them the Trinity. The shell as the Holy Spirit the white being the Lord Jesus Christ and the yoke being God the Father. All three of them together making one God, and all three parts making one egg.
Ideas to Celebrate Easter In Church
7. Attend church regularly.
If you only go to church on Easter and Christmas, you’re not showing your children the importance of God, Easter or Christmas because you neglect church all the other times of the year. And you are not showing God His importance because you are ignoring His command; “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together…”
8. Get involved in the Easter service.
If your church is planning a special performance, volunteer in some way. Get involved in the church presentation of Easter, the choir, or in the Easter skit.
9. Plan an Easter fun day.
As a church, plan an Easter fun day for kids (much like VBS) where you invite the children of the community, and teach them about the resurrection of Christ.
Ideas to Celebrate Easter in the community
10. Pass out tracts.
As a church, pass out Easter tracts to those in your community and invite them to the Easter service.
11. Hang door hangers.
Go to every house in the neighborhood with a door hanger invitation to the Easter service.
12. Pray for people.
Pray over your neighbors, church family, and for God’s guidance in the message of Easter.
13. Make Easter cookies.
Bake Easter tomb and cross cookies to pass out to your friends and neighbors. Be creative in the cookie making.
14. Put up Easter signs.
Put Easter signs in your yard for people to see as they pass by.
15. Plan a resurrection party.
Have a resurrection party at your house, and invite your friends and neighbors. Sing resurrection songs and play resurrection games.
